You think you can take the worst news
and then they give it to you
and it's not at all as easy as you have told yourself it would be
and over time you cast a Pollyanna light on it
and it becomes more bearable
but still lurking in the back of your mind
is a
t r a g e d y
that is just waiting for you to claim it
you stake your claim in hope
and wait by the light that it brings
hoping above all hopes
that this time
it passes you by
